Summary

The Darkling rules Ravka from his shadow throne。

Now the nation's fate rests with a broken Sun Summoner, a disgraced tracker, and the shattered remnants of a once-great magical army。

Deep in an ancient network of tunnels and caverns, a weakened Alina must submit to the dubious protection of the Apparat and the zealots who worship her as a Saint。 Yet her plans lie elsewhere, with the hunt for the elusive firebird and the hope that an outlaw prince still survives。

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova's amplifiers。 But as she begins to unravel the Darkling's secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields。 The firebird is the one thing that stands between Ravka and destruction—and claiming it could cost Alina the very future she’s fighting for。

By far my favorite of the trilogy。 Constantly challenging my expectations and evenly paced action and excitement。 Half of me was sad how it ended, the other half appreciated the distancing from that expectation。

So, I'm really torn about how exactly to rate this book。 The first half was incredibly dull and difficult to get through。 But the second half didn't let up and was a real treat。 If the whole book was like the second half, I would have given it 4 stars for sure。 But, seeing as I wasn't crazy about the first half, I'm going to just go with 3 stars as my rating。Mal was amazing in this book and I loved him for every scene he was in。 He really raised the book up a few notches, while Nikolai was out o So, I'm really torn about how exactly to rate this book。 The first half was incredibly dull and difficult to get through。 But the second half didn't let up and was a real treat。 If the whole book was like the second half, I would have given it 4 stars for sure。 But, seeing as I wasn't crazy about the first half, I'm going to just go with 3 stars as my rating。Mal was amazing in this book and I loved him for every scene he was in。 He really raised the book up a few notches, while Nikolai was out of commission for a little while。 And Alina, although still annoying, was much better throughout this book, and a much more sympathetic character by the end of it。 My only problem with the characters was Nikolai's absence throughout some of the book。 He really lit up the pages he was on, and his absence was certainly felt。 The Darkling also got better and more complicated, although he was still the most complicated in SHADOW AND BONE, and I still miss that side of him。 The ending itself was a surprise that I really loved。 The last sentence of this book was beautiful, and I wish Legih Bardugo had the foresight to write the whole trilogy like the last third of this book。 Then, it would have easily been 4 stars for all three books for me。 But, yeah, if you don't feel something for the last few sentences of this book, then I'd say you're probably the Darkling and don;t feel empathy at all。All in all, I'm glad I read this before the TV show was released。 (Well, most of it anyway。) I watched two episodes of SHADOW AND BONE today and hope that it's better than the books and they build upon that。 Bur, all in all, the trilogy was pretty good。 Mostly stadard YA reading until the very end of the trilogy。 Some parts lagged badly, and other parts were fantastic reading, but mostly it was middle of the road for me。 That is。 until the ending when Leigh Bardugo pulled out all the stops, and showed her capabilities before she got famous with SIX OF CROWS。 This trilogy definitely isn't as good as that duology, but I'm still glad I read it and know the world and its magic system better now。 Now, I'll celebrate Sankta Alina's life and continue watching the Netflix show。。。。 。。。more

3。5⭐️The best book in the entire series but only because every character was completely different from their existence prior to this book。 I'm not a fan of retroactively absolving characters as a replacement for a proper redemption arc。 I'm not a fan of the abandonment of Alina's morally gray potential。 I'm not a fan of flooding the reader with the best version of a character, especially when this version is a complete rewritten version, for the sake of making any harm that comes to them more tr 3。5⭐️The best book in the entire series but only because every character was completely different from their existence prior to this book。 I'm not a fan of retroactively absolving characters as a replacement for a proper redemption arc。 I'm not a fan of the abandonment of Alina's morally gray potential。 I'm not a fan of flooding the reader with the best version of a character, especially when this version is a complete rewritten version, for the sake of making any harm that comes to them more tragic and their situation more sympathetic。 It felt manipulative and like a cop out。 I give the entire trilogy 3⭐️ 。。。more

No easy wrap-ups with this final installment of the trilogy。 There are plenty of plot twists to keep things interesting。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I liked this! I can seen why some people wouldn’t like the ending but personally my ship ended up together so I’m happy 🤷🏼‍♀️It did drag a little bit in the middle but other than that I found it very interesting and there was always something happening。 I do feel like Nikolai’s transformation and his part in the war was glossed over。 The relationship between him and Alina also felt very forced in this book。 I personally never wanted them together so that might’ve been why。 Overall, I enjoyed thi I liked this!

Loved the book, absolutely Hated the ending

2。7/5 It was a very slow paced story mainly bogged down by irrelevant details。 The ending was good but nothing out of the ordinary。 I wish it was as fast paced as the first book。 Alina’s character was extremely bland throughout。 Mal developed a lot in the book but wasn’t a convincing protagonist。 I wish there was more of Nikolai in this book。 It usually takes me about a day or two to finish a book but this took me a week。 It was just boring, i’m sorryy ☹️

Best of the trilogy tbh

For some reason i put off reading this series for the longest time, but this year since the news of the Netflix adaptation was announced i decided to give it go and listen to the audiobooks (i don’t have the physical copies) and i must say i really enjoy this trilogy and i absolutely loved the ending。Personally i don’t get all talks about how people don’t like Malina I personally loved them。🦋🌸I do recommend this trilogy if you are looking for a fast paced books。

"I'm the Sun Summoner。 It gets dark when I say it does。" ★★★½This one was really entertaining but kinda slow at some parts。The pacing was all over the place, the "final battle"  lasted like 2 pages, and the world building, all the book。 It started strong though not as strong as siege and storm but still good。 It's definitely better I think of shadow and bone but not as good as the previous one。 One major fact for that was that we barely had Nikolai which made mad, because whenever he appeared it "I'm the Sun Summoner。 It gets dark when I say it does。" ★★★½This one was really entertaining but kinda slow at some parts。The pacing was all over the place, the "final battle"  lasted like 2 pages, and the world building, all the book。 It started strong though not as strong as siege and storm but still good。 It's definitely better I think of shadow and bone but not as good as the previous one。 One major fact for that was that we barely had Nikolai which made mad, because whenever he appeared it made the book better so without him for the most part of the book it did felt a little slow。 I still don't care about Mal, sorry but he's just boring and the other supportive characters I didn't care for except two。 I did cry in the middle lol, if you know you know。 Baghra and Nikolai became my favorite characters of the trilogy and in a close second Zoya。 They weren't given enough justice I wanted more of them in the book。But overall I'm really glad I picked up the series because it's fun sometimes, the whole world is very complex and I'm intrigued to continue with Six of Crows and King of Scars, which I gasped when they hinted that title book。 I've already watched the first episode of the series in Netflix and I assured you it was so so good, I think it'll be one of the cases when the show is better than the book, well I don't know but the first episode gave me those major vibes。 。。。more

This was probably the best book in the trilogy。 I was enjoying this one right from the start! Something happened part way through that just broke me though and I ended up looking up how the entire book ended because I could not handle it。Anyways, I still hate Mal。 Do I hate him a little bit less? Maybe? Probably not。 Things I loved:Nikolai Appearances involving the darkling Nikolai NIKOLAI。 I hated the way this trilogy ended。 I feel like this could have been so much more than it was and I was ju This was probably the best book in the trilogy。 I was enjoying this one right from the start!

Brilliant third endingThe third book on shadow and bones and it did not disappoint。 Brilliant could not put it down。 Six of cross here I come

I am so in love。 I read the whole series in 4 days and am jumping to Six of Crows immediately。 I am not leaving this universe anytime soon。 I sincerely have not cared for a group of characters this much since Harry Potter。 I am absolutely in love with Nikolai but all the others just keep melting my heart。 I loved this series so much。 It had action, it had folklore influences, it had interesting world-building but most of all the best character group ever。 I am utterly in love。

Bea Monlevade

My favorite of the trilogy 🥳

This trilogy got steadily better with each book。 I adored Ruin and Rising and am sad to see it end。 I'm not sure what to expect from Six of Crows or the rest of the Grishaverse but I'm looking forward to reading on!

Simplemente sin palabras。 He sufrido muchísimo, he llorado, y lo he disfrutado。 Ojalá no se hubiera acabado ya este viaje con Alina。 Ahora a leer seis de cuervos y el príncipe marcado

This is definitely a comfort series for me。 This last book wrapped everything up so well and was almost bittersweet。 There are some very shocking parts in this book and will leave you very emotional。 I thoroughly enjoyed this entire series and don't know what more to say about it other than give it a try yourself and you can be surprised by how awesome these books are!
